Royal Australian College of Surgeons Refurbishment

Royal Australian College of Surgeons Refurbishment

Fontic Collaborated with RACS and architect Lovell Chen to oversee the renovation of the East and West wings at the RACS Headquarters in Melbourne.

RACS is dedicated to fostering the ongoing development, maintenance of expertise, and lifelong learning that are essential to the surgical practice of over 8,300 surgeons and 1,300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.

Located in the iconic, heritage-listed building at 250 Spring Street, RACS head office was designed by architects Irwin and Stevenson in 1935.

The renovation project involved refurbishing and upgrading the existing facilities to create modern, functional spaces that encourage and support staff activities. The site includes structures dating back to the 1920s, and Fontic managed the complexities of working in this environment, including heritage and hazardous materials considerations.

Upon engagement, Fontic conducted a thorough review of existing project documentation to identify key risks and delivery challenges. In close collaboration with the client’s internal delivery team, Fontic is focused on optimisng the delivery phase to minimise operational downtime and disruption for RACS staff and members.
